When UNIT Superheaters needed a project management tool they found none of the ‘off the shelf’ software would serve their purpose, so they asked the Excel Expert to help them.
We helped with the design of a project management tool to look after the production, manufacture and installation of industrial super heaters around the world. We then implemented the project for them.

The Client
A large UK engineering company manufacturing and installing superheaters in to large power stations and plants all around the world.
The Problem
With superheaters taking several months to manufacture their specialist products and with a full order book, UNIT Superheaters needed a bespoke project management tool to allow them to project manage the manufacture of a large number of superheaters.
No off the shelf package was flexible enough to provide the solution they needed and they didn’t have the time to have a bespoke application created from scratch.
The Results
We developed an Excel based application that allowed UNIT Superheaters to enter and edit details of contracts won, what resources were needed from each section of the plant and what resources were available in each of them at any particular time.
Several graphical reports would allow the management team to see if and when each part of their production was either under or over utilised allowing for better planning.

Up until the application was developed, UNIT Superheaters were using pen and paper to plan their production on and as a result was very time consuming, prone to errors and not very easy to communicate throughout the business.

The application we developed is intuitive, graphical and gives instant feedback on planning decisions.
Although the application was envisaged as a temporary measure it is still in daily use two years later.
